Cape Verde resorts to World Emergency Fund

The torrential rains that assailed Cape Verde at the beginning of this month caused considerable damage, with roads cut off, flooding and the destruction of houses and farm plots.

Cape Verdean authorities are concerned that the situation could worsen in some parts of the country. This, for example, is the case of the Faveta dam, whose reservoir has overflowed, and of the Saquinho dam, which is nearing capacity.

After assessing the damage caused by the bad weather, Minister of Infrastructures and the Maritime Economy Sara Lopes announced that the country will request aid from the World emergency Fund to repair the damage.
