The promoters of the Academy consider the event “historic,” given that this is the first time an academy of sciences and humanities has been constituted in Cape Verde.

“In the face of the progress achieved by humanity with regards to access to information, the construction of knowledge-based societies and the interconnection between sciences and humanities within an inter- and trans-disciplinary logic, the ACH-CV constitutes a forum for debate and the proposal of solutions for the country’s major development issues and its dynamic integration in world communities anchored in the value of knowledge,” according to a press release.

The plenary that met last Friday, July 10, acknowledged the work of the Academic Founding Council, chaired by Onésimo Silveira, which led the academy during the period of its set-up and installation, and highlighted the role of poet Corsino Fortes as one of its main proponents. The Academy was officially constituted with 68 founding members residing both in the country and abroad.
