“I’m happy about the award, because it’s proof that my work is valued more abroad than here in my home country,” said Tibau of the award, the first in his career.
The documentary, directed by Steffen Boseckeft, focuses on the island of Maio and its people, as well as the influence its way of life has had on the music of Tibau. It also portrays the musical encounter between Tibau and the German pop band, with which he recorded his first CD, Pupkulies & Rebecca Play Tibau.
On the album, Tibau Tavares sings and plays 6- and 12-string guitar, cavaquinho and piano, accompanied by the German band. Tibau and Pupkulies & Rebecca have toured Europe extensively to promote the CD over the past year.
