Jorge Neto in stable condition, but prognosis is reserved 29 Novembro 2012

Amadora-Sintra Hospital general director Luís Marques has told A Semana Online that it is still early for a prognosis on the state of health of Cape Verdean singer Jorge Neto. “We’re in our second day. It will only be possible to get a clearer idea after the third day,” said the physician, who was accompanied by a nurse in the patient’s room.

Jorge Neto is currently hooked up to respiratory and cardiac support equipment. He is speaking and can recognize people, although his voice is rough.

Neto was smiling, and his smile broadened with the hospital director jokingly said, “I’ve never heard you sing, but when you’re better you’re going to give a concert for our patients here at the hospital. I want to hear you sing,” a suggestion to which the singer shook his head yes.

Marque explained that a safe diagnosis cannot be made before three days have passed, as the stroke which the singer suffered is still under way, and there is a slight risk it may be repeated.

Jorge Neto was admitted to Amadora-Sintra Hospital near Portuguese capital Lisbon on Wednesday afternoon after arriving from the United States. He began to feel ill while still in the airplane on his way back from a benefit concert.
