José Luandino Vieira to speak at UniCV 12 Dezembro 2008
Renowned Angolan author José Luandino Vieira will speak at the auditorium of the University of Cape Verde (UniCV) later today. The writer returns to Cape Verde after more than twenty years without having visited the islands, where he wrote many of his books as a political prisoner of the Portuguese fascist regime at the Tarrafal prison camp in the early 1970s.
Indeed, it was in Tarrafal that José Luandino Vieira wrote many of his renowned works, considered one of the most important oeuvres of modern Portuguese-language literature.
Vieira will speak at the UniCV auditorium in Praia’s central Plateau district at 6:30 pm in a joint initiative of the Brazil-Cape Verde Cultural Center, UniCV and the International Portuguese Language Institute.
