Judiciary Police seized more than 1,300 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition hidden in an abandoned house in Praia’s Calabaceira district this Tuesday afternoon. No one has been arrested, but Judiciary Police believe the ammunition to be part of an arsenal stolen from the Armed Forces armory in Fontes Almeida, near Praia, in March 2013.

According to a well-placed source, the ammunition seized today is used in G3 rifles, which in Cape Verde is used exclusively by the Armed Forces.

The same source believes that there is more ammunition in the hands of civilians, given that the arsenal stolen in 2013 was much larger. Indeed, Judiciary Police were unable to recover any weapons, and investigations aimed at removing the armaments from the hands of civilians continue.
