TACV Boeing to land at São Pedro airport for first time 04 Dezembro 2009

São Pedro Airport on the island of São Vicente will receive a test flight of TACV Cabo Verde Airlines’ Boeing 757-200 at 2:20 pm today, December 4. This is one of the final tests in the audit being carried out by the Civil Aeronautics Agency (AAC) prior to allowing the airport to open for international flights.

The Boeing 757 will have only its crew on board, but technicians from TACV, Airport and Air Security company ASA and the AAC itself will be on the ground to witness the test landing. Also present will be Minister of Infrastructures, Transportation and Telecommunications Manuel Inocêncio Sousa and São Vicente mayor Isaura Gomes.

Over the past several years, São Pedro Airport has undergone extensive work, including the extension of its runway to 2,000 meters in length and 45 meters in width, in order to be able to receive Boeing 757s and similar aircrafts.

With an increase in the number of passengers expected, a new terminal was built, and a number of obstacles to air navigation – Areia and Selada mountains – were removed from the surroundings.

All indications are that São Pedro Airport is now ready to be officially opened for international flights before the end of December.
