Thousands participate in Freedom Race in Praia 13 Janeiro 2015

Thousands of people took to the streets of the capital city today to take part in this year’s edition of the Freedom Race. Professional athletes, children, young people and even the elderly all ran side by side, with participants showing that the Freedom Race is more than just a competition – it is a march in the name of equality and democracy.

Rosa Mota, the guest of honor at the 7th edition of the Freedom race, fired the starting gun alongside Praia mayor Ulisses Correia e Silva in Alexandre Albuquerque Square in the central Plateau district. The kickoff saw a multitude of people who expressed their satisfaction in participating in what has now become the traditional January 13 race.

In the 15-kilometer race, Adilson Spencer once again showed his stamina, arriving at the finish line in front of Várzea Stadium in first place. The Boa Vista-born athlete said the effort and work put into improving his performance resulted in “another victory.” In second place came Senegalese athlete Samba Faye, who was invited to participate in the race. In third place was Cândido Costa.

In the women’s race, first place went to Crisolita Rodrigues, followed by Artemisa da Moura in second and Patrícia Fernandes in third.
