US donates $2 million to fight drug trafficking and organized crime in Cape Verde 25 Agosto 2015

The United States of America will make a new US$ 2 million financial package available to the Cape Verde aimed at combating drug trafficking and organized crime in the country. The aid comes through an accord signed this Tuesday, August 25, in Praia by Justice Minister José Carlos Lopes Correia and United States ambassador to Cape Verde Donald Helfin.

The support includes computer equipment for the Judiciary Police and the Financial Information Unit, as well as communication materials for the Military Police, Maritime Police and the Coast Guard. It also includes a drug testing laboratory and vehicles.

The project, which has a one-year duration, is aimed at supporting anti-drug trafficking efforts under way in Cape Verde, mobilizing the Criminal Investigation Information system and providing information technology equipment and furnishings necessary for the Financial Information Unit to carry out its functions.
