News agency Inforpress reports that the government will announce a date for the official unveiling of the road after work is completed.
São Miguel mayor João Duarte believes that the renovations carried out on the road will make it easier for products originating in the municipality to be transported to Santa Catarina, “which is a major market.”
In addition, says the mayor, the road will facilitate access to facilities located in the municipality of Santa Catarina, such as the University of Santiago and the North Santiago Regional Hospital.
With the new highway, “the town of Calheta will be visited more often by people from Santa Catarina, whose residents, for their part, will have another alternative for access to the coastline for leisure activities,” said Duarte.
The Cruz Grande-Calhetona road is 14 kilometers long. Construction work cost a total of 387 million escudos, and asphalting and drainage work was carried out by the company Monte Adriano.
