Solange Cesarovna sings morna by Eugénio Tavares in Afrovision 24 March 2012
“Força de Cretcheu,” by poet and composer Eugénio Tavares, is the morna that singer Solange Cesarovna has chosen to introduce Cape Verdean music into the second edition of the Pan-African festival Afrovision, which will take place in Abidjan, Ivory Coast between April 8 and 14.
In addition to contact with other artists from the 22 African countries to be represented in the festival’s final concert, the singer will vie for various prizes, among them best artist and best song. More important that this, however, is the opportunity to speak about Cape Verde, about Eugénio Tavares and about other great musicians and composers the islands have produced.
“It’s a great honor and very gratifying to represent Cape Verde in the Afrovision festival. It was with great satisfaction that I received the news that I’d been chosen by the Ministry of Culture, and I’m going to represent our essence and our specificity,” according to Solange Cesarovna.
