The new coach has been introduced by the Cape Verdean Basketball Federation. Nwora has resided for some time in the United States of America, where he played professional basketball.
The assistant coach will be António Tavares, better known as Tó, from Praia’s Seven Stars team, who had been leading the national team since the departure of previous coach Manuel Trovoada.
Nwora’s first task will be to prepare Cape Verde to participate in the 2nd edition of the Lusophone Games, slated to take place between July 11 and 19 in Portuguese capital Lisbon.
His main job, however, will be to get the team ready for Afrobasket 2009, which will take place in Libya between August 5 and 15. In the first phase of the tournament, Cape Verde will go up against Tunisia, Rwanda and Morocco.
In the last edition of Afrobasket, held in Angola in 2007, Cape Verde earned the bronze medal.
