The novel upon which the play is based was published in 1956 and is considered a benchmark in Cape Verdean literature.
Jorge Martins, the leader of Juventude em Marcha, admits that adapting the novel for the stage required a great deal of work. “Chuva Braba is a masterpiece by a great Cape Verdean writer, and this is why it deserves to be adapted for theater. We hope to live up to the importance of this work.”
After having been staged on the islands of Santo Antão, Sal and São Vicente, it is now Santiago’s turn to see the adaptation of Chuva Braba, which will be presented on July 30 and 31 at 9:00 pm.
