UniCV to offer classes in Mandarin Chinese 23 Abril 2009

Classes in Mandarin will begin to be offered in the next academic year at the University of Cape Verde (UniCV), according to the ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Praia.

The Ministers of Education of Cape Verde and China are negotiating the transfer of two Chinese professors to the University of Cape Verde, according to Chinese ambassador Wu Yuanshan. The diplomat told news agency Angola Press that the objective is to launch a course in Mandarin at the Praia and Mindelo university poles in the upcoming academic year.

The subject will have three levels of study, but the classes will depend on the number of applicants. The course will also be open to Chinese citizens residing in Cape Verde.

Some 70 Cape Verdean students currently attend university in the People’s Republic of China.

Wu Yuanshan also affirmed that the possibility of opening a Chinese school in Cape Verde is being discussed.
